It's A Hobby You Can Do!

About Me

My Hobby

A hobby that I often take part in is volunteering. I have been volunteering for several years in school events, community services, and other activities that sometimes involve a group of people or just me. I like to volunteer because I like to help others and make their day. I enjoy interacting with others, so when I volunteer I get the chance to talk with lots of people. A lot of people are on their own and have nobody to talk to. The other volunteers and I like to be friendly with others and be a good listener. I often work with an organization where we prepare food and hand it to people who come to where we are set up. Usually we are set up at local schools or just out in puclic where all people can have a chance in coming by to grab a free meal. It's a great feeling to help others even if you aren't getting anything in return. The important thing is that you are helping others. This doesn't always mean people, I often also volunteer at animal hospitals but now that I am of age, I have a job there. Volunteering can serve as a great way to figure out where you see yourself in the future. Maybe helping people can make you realize you want to be a doctor or some kind of job that involved working with people. Or me, for example, working with animals as made me realizse I aspire to be a vet, and maybe volunteering in environmental groups makes you realize you want a career environment related. Volunteering is not only an activity you can do in your free time, but you can experiment with many volunteer groups to figure out what suits you best. You can use volunteering as a way to discover what interests you the most and perhaps want a job related to what your working with. Volunteering serves many purposes. However mostly it's a great to connect with others and help each other out.

Why?

Why Volunteer?

This is a hobby that I have been doing for a few years now. It is a great way to give back to the community and participate. You can help make other people's days a little better and even make yourself feel better. So why not do it? Many of us are fortunate enough to have roofs over our heads and daily meals. Not everyone has that, many people don't know where their next meal with come from or where they will sleep that night. It is important to get involved, and help the less fortunate. Especially since we are limited on what we do and where we go because of coronavirus, we have more times on our hands to be productive and give a helping hand. From personal experience, I have gone to the store and seen aisles of emptiness. Lots of people rush to stock up on food and cleaning products. A lot of these people forget that there are the homeless and families who need these things as well but do not get the opportunity of get anything because of them not having enough money or everything being gone by the time they reach a grocery store. Many people also had jobs that shut down and were paid by the hour, and that was their only source of incoming money. It is important to think about others who are in more need of help from the communuity. The action of volunteering shouldn't come across as a chore, but rather an act of good will.

However, you do not always have to volunteer for people, you can also volunteer for the environment. The environment is not in the best state, and it may never return to its once perfect condition. Planes, cars, trains, are only a few of many causes of pollution. Pollution makes the air we breath filty, and it breaks the ozone layer which protects us from the sun. Therefore, we have global warming. You can help make great impacts to the environment even staright from your home. Volunteering or just helping the community doesn't always mean you have to get up and leave your house. Some people prefer to stay indoors, especially during the Covid outbreak. It is also very important to stay safe. This website will provide you with ways you can help others and the environment in or out of your house.

How?

How can you get involved?

It is easy to get involved in volunteering. You can even do find ways to help the community on your own. Let's first talk about getting involved in an organization or group. You can research organization near you and see what suits you best. I often work with a group called Alive! We prepare food, clothing, and other house necessities and give them to low income families. Wildlife Act is another volunteer group where you get lots of fun hands on activities that can help wildlife. Soup kitchens are a common form of volunteer work that helps others. These are only a couple groups out of many that you can choose from. All it takes is a little research time and you can find a bunch of organizations you can choose from in your area. Retirement homes also have opportunities for volunteer work, especially for teens. You don't have to limit yourself to one specific organizatin though, there are lots you can choose from. More ways you can help the community are grabbing a few friends and maybe plant some trees or donating clothes you no longer want. You can be creative when it comes to getting involved in your community. You don't always have to be limited to rules and such when your working with an organization.

You can help out the community and the world around you simply by just recycling. It's an easy task and is helpful to the world around us. Volunteer doesn't mean you go out somewhere and work with others. Volunteering simply means to freely take part in a task that is beneficial. That being said, some ways you can volunteer as an individual could be grabbing groceries for your neighbor who may be elderly or uncomfortable leaving their home because of corona. You can walk the dogs of people who are nervous about leaving their home. There are much more opportunities to take part in while many people are in self quarantine due to coronavirus. Of course, make sure you do any of these tasks safely and be sure you are not a threat to the person you are helping.

Some Organizations you can get involved with:

Percent of people who volunteer on an average day in 2015

Age Percent Gender Total
15-34 16.6% Women:9.1% Men:7.5%
35-54 25.4% Women:14.8% Men:10.6%
55+ 30.9 Women:17% Men:13.9&
StatsFromVolunteering

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there has been a decline of 0.4% of volunteer work being done in the U.S over the course of a few years. As you can see on the chart, more women than men volunteer. The age group 55+ volunteer the most on a day to day basis. We can make an increase on how much volunteer work is being done, it is up to each person to do their part.
